Montreal

There is no better way to have your students practicing their French then taking them to Montreal.  The second largest French-speaking city in the world, Montreal is unlike any other destination in Canada and many of the sights that will interest your students are located in relatively small areas. Your tour leader will guide your group through…Vieux-Montréal has wonderful architecture dating back over 300 years. With the feel of a Parisian quartier, a short walk will take you to the Pointe-à-Callière museum of archaeology and history where you can walk underground among the original stone-paved streets, drainage channels, and ground floors of 17th-century buildings. As you climb through the museum you experience the unfolding of history with displays of artefacts, maps, and other exhibits. Special exhibitions cover a wide global range of history and archaeology. Then there is the twin-towered Notre-Dame Basilica (with its 7 000-pipe organ and stained-glass window displays of the founding of Montréal), the quays of the revitalized Old Port, and the open-air gathering space of Place Jacques-Cartier. For art enthusiasts, a must-see is The Place des Arts, a complex dedicated to visual and performing arts, the largest of its kind in all Canada. Three great cultural organizations make their home here: the Montreal Symphony Orchestra, Les Grands Ballets Canadiens, and the Opéra de Montréal, and its various stages and rehearsal halls provide venues for all kinds of theater, music, dance, films, and events. The Musée d’art contemporain de Montréal, a contemporary art museum, is particularly worth a visit, especially as young French-Canadian artists are accorded special prominence. The Parc du Mont-Royal also offers some of the highest elevation in Montreal for some truly spectacular city-center views. In the winter months, the park offers skiing and ice skating without needing to head out into the nearby mountains. At any given time of the year, Parc Jean-Drapeau offers the visitor dozens of concerts, art galleries and movie screenings as well as sports competitions such as kayaking and swimming in the nearby waterways and pools. Contact one of our agents today so that we can put together an itinerary that entertains and educates your students with an adventure they will always remember.
